End of the Season

The Irish American Club East Side Pipes and Drums were featured in the Cleveland Plain Dealer. It was a beautiful day for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Did you read how many people came to watch? An astounding 500,00! It was the luck of the Irish that gave us the good weather last Saturday.

Of course, we had to come to the Irish American Club in Euclid to clean. Club members had come after the parade to visit with friends and family. Everyone had a good time with music, dancing and food.

CLEANING AT THE IRISH AMERICAN CLUB

It has been a busy weekend. Last Saturday, it was Harp Guinness Nite II and on Sunday they celebrated Family Day.

To start off the week on a glorious note, members filled the Club to the walls for the monthly meeting. The step dancers come tapping their shoes and the bag pipers bellow their music to the delight of the people who came.

Soo, this morning there is a lot of cleaning after the monthly meeting. Everybody is gearing up for the Irish Coffee Night that will be held this Friday. Yes, we will be cleaning that night because people come early in the morning for doughnuts before going to church at Ss. Robert and William to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.

Dreaded Household Chores cont’d

This is about electric stoves.  I have a pet peeve with people who line their drip pans with foil.  Yes, that is done so you people don’t have to clean the pan.  But it doesn’t look aesthetic.  Also, the foils do get dirty and should be changed very frequently if there is a lot of cooking done.  Or else, there is the danger of a fire.

Really, the drip pans should be cleaned either right away after getting soiled or along with the evening dishes.  Otherwise, the soil causes pitting and the debris doesn’t come off.  That is why I like my smooth cook-top.  It forces the owner to keep the cooking area clean.

Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner at IACES

The Irish American Club was packed for their Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner. This event is always on the first Sunday in March almost two weeks before St. Patrick’s Day.

At Ss. Robert and William School, we had to set up chairs and tables for the second graders’ Reconciliation party in the Gym.. And of course, those tables and chairs had to be put away after the event.

High Season of the Irish

Last weekend was the Kickoff to St. Patrick’s Day with a performance by The Kreellers. I am sure everyone had a good time since they perform their own Celtic Rock with all kinds of modern styles. It took quite a while to clean up after this event. Think I am going to look up their website and listen to their music.

Dreaded Household Chores

At the beginning of this month, we were contracted to get a house ready for its first rental.  It was a fairly easy job since the previous occupant was a elderly widower who didn’t do much cooking.  One person doesn’t get the house very dirty.

Of course when it rains it pours.  We got a call to do another rental on February 8.  This one was really bad since people these days do not have respect for the property of others.

Anyway, when Gene and one of our employees was cleaning at the second rental property, the ex-renter happened to stop in to leave the key.  He/She had seen Gene cleaning the Over-The-Range Microwave with Formula 409 which is a degreaser.  The previous renter declared that the stove (which was really bad for a smooth-cooktop) didn’t need to be cleaned since it had a self-cleaning element.

WELL JUST BECAUSE THE STOVE HAS A SELF-CLEANING FEAUTURE DOESN’T MEAN THE COOK DOESN’T HAVE TO DO ANY CLEANING AT ALL.  IT IS NOT DONE BY MAGIC!  Even the instruction manual for stoves tell owners that excess spillage must be wiped up before setting the self-cleaning on.  A lot of smoke could end up spewing from the stove.  Even a fire could result since the temperature goes up to 900 degrees in some models.

Yes,cleaning the stove is one of the most dreaded household jobs.  But it is not safe to cook with grease on the stove or in the oven.  Even EASY OFF OVEN CLEANER declares that everyone deserves to have their meals cooked in a CLEAN OVEN.  The food even tastes better!

It is not so hard to clean up after every meal.  A little cleaning now is easier than having to clean for several hours.  Then the job won’t be approached with trepidation and dread.

Weekend Activities

Again, we had a busy weekend. Friday night, the Irish American Club had a Hawaiian Lua. We didn’t get done cleaning until 3:A.M. even with 3 workers! Then it was decided between Gene and 1 of our workers to go to the Beach Club Grill to clean there. Why bother going to bed when you are already psyched up.

On Sunday, Ss. Robert and William had a Pancake Breakfast. There is nothing like a stack of pancakes and sausage to start off Super Bowl Sunday.. There was plenty of work to do there also.

We had to clean at Ss. Robert and William School on Saturday and Sunday. There was a Reverse Raffle on Saturday and Open House on Sunday. The school was really buzzing!

Looking Back

Gene started to do some floor work at the Slovenian Society Home in Euclid last week.  He usually does some work for the Home about once a year. The floor work will be done this week.

And the Irish American Club East Side requested that floor jobs be done on the floors on Downstairs Dance Area and the Game Room.  They are gearing up for when the Murphy Irish Dancers give a outstanding show at the end of February.  Can’t you just feel your toes tapping whenever you hear Riverdance?  I actually like Irish step-dancing a whole lot better than Slovenian Polkas!

It’s a brand New Year!

Yes, it is hard to believe that the second week of the New Year is almost completed. So much to accomplish such as throwing out the old and reorganizing.  Did you know that paint cans don’t last indefinitely even if stored above 32 degrees? Yes, clean out the basement, closets, and drawers! Don’t wait until Spring.

In December, Fiorelli’s Grand Sweep did 2 stripping & waxing jobs, one at St. Rita’s School in Solon and the other at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church on Detroit Ave. in Cleveland. It was a great way to end the year!
